Important things to know about the immediate neighbourhood!
Best way to and from downtown Ottawa/Hull (west part of amalgamated Gatineau) by car from this location: travel two blocks north on Cobourg St and then turn left at light on St. Patrick. Take St. Patrick all the way to Sussex (National Gallery corner) and continue through intersection veering left on Mackenzie towards Centretown or right towards the Alexandra bridge and downtown Hull/Gatineau.
Places to park for more than an hour or two in Byward Market and Centertown: Byward Parking Garage at 70 Clarence St. is reasonably priced and is right in the middle of things. In Centertown, parking under the World Exchange Plaza at 45 O'Connor is free on weekends or $20 for all day.
Shopping - Rideau Centre (RC) for indoor shopping of course! This mall has amazing array of high end and fast-fashion shops. Nordstom and Coach versus Old Navy and Quebec retailer Simon's. My frugal dollar is most likely to go to Simon's, which sells its own lines of fast-fashion, high fashion and housewares in addition to some of the best brands. Simon's and Nordstrom have lovely in-store cafes and the food court at RC is next level. Great food AND decor/furniture. RC is worth a visit if just to window shop and have a snack.
Recreation - Lowertown pool for indoor swimming, free outdoor skating rinks at Jules Morin Park, City Hall, Rideau Hall.
Restaurants - Kochin Kitchen Indian Buffet $, Fraser Cafe $$$, Brasserie Metropolitain $$....
Free museum entry on Thursday evenings!
