I have been wondering what kind of containers I should use for salad dressings and other sauces that customers put on the food themselves. The metal lids for the glass jars get rusty, the snap-top glass jars leak and even pop open, the paper cups cost $0.50 each and the plastic lids are not recyclable... Given their price and durability, the answer might be the really tacky looking but reusable Ziplock Smart Snap containers. The only problem with these is that everyone has these in their kitchen and my containers get mixed in with my customers' containers and my containers won't come back. The custom dishwasher proof stickers cost $0.50 each and I would need a lot of them.... Thoughts?
Update: I decided to go with these sturdy, BPA-free, twist-lid containers for sauces and soup. Like the rest of my re-useable plastic containers, please load them on the top shelf of your dishwasher to keep them in good shape as long as possible.

Any thoughts about the Kabocha squash last week? I found it extremely starchy with not too much flavour, compared to the Butternut. It gave the soup lots of body, but I wouldn't depend on Kabocha alone. I bet it would be good mashed with roasted garlic, like a potato. At $1.99/lb though (best price I've seen on them), it is not very economical...

Now delivering to Chelsea, QC - yippee! Just select Chelsea when you fill out your shipping info.
In other exciting news, I have found someone to peel vegetables for me a couple of hours a week. The help allows me to expand production and take a few more customers. NOW is a great time to refer any friends, neighbours and colleagues who might be interested in Db6. Much appreciated!!

Not sure if anyone noticed, but the Rainbow salad was made with spring mix and the soup was asparagus instead of broccoli. Costco had no baby spinach and no fresh broccoli when I did my final shop last week! I hope everyone was okay with that...?
Honestly, I think that was the best asparagus soup I have ever made!

I had lots of fun preparing a holiday buffet for my swim club last weekend! I dusted off the recipe I have been using for Tourtière since 2005 (by Lucy Waverman) and it was a major hit, as usual. I also took a risk and made Mexican Mole sauce for the first time - it was absolutely rich and delicious on pulled chicken. Finally, there was Mediterranean Lentil stew on the buffet, which is great for those with gf/vegan diets. There was rice, quinoa and brioche buns to go with everything and, of course, my signature salads. I brought a GF fruit crumble, vegan chocolate cupcakes and triple chocolate brownies for dessert.

There will be no fresh menu on November 29. My nephew is visiting from Australia :)

I love my dishwasher. It works so hard! I run it up to 5 times per day a few days a week when I am cooking a lot.
I also run several dishwasher loads of returned containers every week to get them extra, extra clean before re-using.

I'm so happy to report that my kids' former elementary school’s annual fundraiser was a great success this past weekend!
Rockcliffe Park Book Fair sold a lot of books and baked goods - and I sold A LOT of hot food.
A HUGE Thank You to the awesome Book Fair volunteers (KS, JL, SP, G, HM) who donated time to serving hot food to Book Fair shoppers Fri, Sat and Sun! I ended up spending 99% of the weekend in the kitchen in order to keep the hot food station well-stocked until Sunday afternoon.
I can’t believe how busy it was! Book buyers consumed vast quantities of several of Dinner by Six's most popular dishes, including the vegetarian and beef chilis, traditional mac&cheese, vegan chickpea and spinach curry, pulled roast pork, and coleslaw.
I sold out of absolutely everything!
The amazing weather helped get people out this weekend, but the large crowd that came to shop Bookfair this year was a lovely surprise.
I had so much fun. What a great community event! Thanks again Book Fair volunteers!
